Late from friday

Friday, as expected. Finished the proposal (it will be sent on monday) and spent the afternoon discussing k-correction and fighting against IDL in the boss' computer ... fight will continue on monday ... :-)

Back

After my failed "coming back" on tuesday, I decided to take one more day of rest and come back only today, after lunch.

Good idea. Finished the text for the resubmition of a proposal to get more data on IGL ... let's see how it goes!!

Today also got contacted by a colaborator about another proposal resubmition, that's good, just keeping the fingers crossed.

Today I received the CDROM with the Master Dissertation of Marcia, my student on CMB, who finished in 2004. Nice to have the final official version of the dissertation on my hands!!

We had a nice talk from Keith Horne about conformal gravity as an option to DM and DE ... I'm always a bit skeptical about those "alternative theories" ... I know we should all be as skeptical with DM and DE too :-))) It was interesting and very instructive!

Tomorrow double task: paper writing and k-correction discussing with the new ideas the boss brought from his trip!!!

Cold sumary!

So!

A cold got me. Wednesday I was feeling bad ... worked on the proposal until late at home ... thursday I finished it with comments from Bodo and submit it before the cold knocked me out ... just in time, 30 minutes later I was K.O. at home ...

whole weekend with 39o's fever and yesterday a recovery day. Hoped today I would be able to produce something useful ... I was wrong ... still bad! Going home ...

Late for friday!

A day running, and then I had to leave un a rush!!!

Day used with the kcorrect, it works, some tests were made and any issue on AB x VEGA magnitudes is much more important than I could imagine!

Now we have to check the diferences from both methods of correction and also a bit better the internal extinction correction in the UV, needed for the optical filters at high-z.

That will wait a bit, because until the 15th, time will be spent in proposals.

Post 300

Post 300 with good news!

After a bunch of small problems trying to recover CNOC mags, define Gunn filters and so on, we decided to test te proceedure in another cluster, to which we have 6 gals with VRI FORS photometry and M_B estimated with a classic k-correction.

Results are consistent with those already published, what is great, since kcorrect is a "assumptions free" method and the classic you have to assume a galaxy type, which is not a easy thing at high-z ...

The discussion of the day was about internal extinction correction (inclination dependent). If it should be applied before applying kcorrect or after it ... differences are smaller than 0.05 mag ... so ... robust result :-))

Embassy paperwork solved perfectly in Berlin on friday, nice weekend there (bad weather, but ... it's Germany, you know ... hehehehehe) and good friends!

Yet Another Post about filter problems

Still checking and re-checking things. Now a new light at the end of the tunnel! It will be tested on monday! Today the day was mostly used in the logistic of the "last minute" trip I have to do to Berlin tomorrow to solve some personal burocracy at the embassy!

So, back on monday with post number 300 ... and good news, I hope!
