One step back?
Yesterday managed to get good results with BUDDA. Today, new test galaxy, no results, not even the first step ... bad news!
At the end of the day ... German class! :-)
One little victory ...
Today there was one little victory in this work with BUDDA. Managed to do the modelling with all the parameters I needed ... good. Now my expert friend is also checking to see if it makes sence.
Gave a talk about wavelets at the group meeting.
And we also decided to do a multicolor photometry before the galaxy modeling, so one more work front for the next days, while I improove my performance with 2D modelling.
Still there
Still there with BUDDA, still trying to make it work as I want!
Also some paper work to my funding and German class!

Not there yet with BUDDA, I'll try more tomorrow ... but it's taking too long :-(
Getting better!
It's getting better, managed to make budda work for one of the example galaxies, but not for the second one, yet ... still checking what's wrong ...
Complicated day!
Today was a complicated day ... but good things!
Morning, going to the city hall to arrange the new visa for next semester. Done
Afternoon, group meeting, lots of good information.
Some work with Budda based on Dimitri's new input, good, things are improoving, tomorrow I'll see the results.
Than German class ... to end the day in a good way, a Jazz concert (a rare event here in Goettingen) ... very good band!!

The whole day with Budda ... Dimitri is being very helpful, that means it's gonna work :-)
One more day of fight ...
One more day trying to make Budda work with my galaxies ... let's see tomorrow ...
Still fighting!
Still trying to learn how to work with Budda. It's being a bit more complicated than I expected ... but it's OK, tomorrow there will be a huge list of questions to the Budda Helpdesk (aka Dimitri hehehehehe).

Today a nice talk from one of our PhD students in our department weekly talk and more on Budda! :-)
GALFIT & BUDDA
Still checking GALFIT. Today I got one image, multicomponent and did "my best" with it.
Then, got BUDDA and tried the same. Not there yet. Gotta learn "my way" through BUDDA to make it work properly.
Short day
It was a short day since I had to do some personal stuff in the morning and had a german class in the afternoon.
Still testing things in GALFIT and now getting ahold of BUDDA, let's compare them.
Day of talks
A day full of talks! :-)
In the morning I spoke to the group about intragroup light in compact groups of galaxies, so that the new student understands part of my work and that the other members could understand better and ask questions, specially about the method. A better explanation about the method will come next week.
In the afternoon more on GALFIT and started to study Budda.
To end the day a very nice talk from Peter Schneider about cosmic shear. Not so much on results, but a great review on general cosmology and the role cosmic shear plays on it! The talk was for the physics faculty, so it was more "general" than only for the astrophysics institute.

Today a short day. Leaving to the PhD cerimony of one of the institute's student!

Today I started to construct my bibtex, I know I should have done before, but I didn't, I know it doesn't count as research, but it takes some time, eventhough (yes I'm outdated) ADS do it very very very easily, but I had to find this out first :-)
Also learning about GALFIT and about the meanings of the output with my good friend Dimitri Gadotti, by e-mail!
Paper + GALFIT
Finally finished the section on the OV_WAV paper including the suggestions from Miguel and learning more about GALFIT ... not a complex day isn't it? :-)
Bibtex X MNRAS
Part of the day was used in a fight to make bibtex works properly inside the LaTeX style of MNRAS. Anyone has a hint?? I did a "arrangement" that worked, but didn't like the way I did it hehehehehe

Stress!!
Today the day was "quite short".
Finished a paper referee report. Group meeting were one of our students had some important issues to discuss, very useful discussions by the way. And finished my section at the OV_WAV paper.
Half of the afternoon was spent going to a "T-COM" store to find out why two months after having canceled my phone they are still charging me ... their reply was that "the billing system takes 70 days to erase a client" ... WHAT???? 70 DAYS??? Yep 70 days ... meanwhile they are investing the money they charged me ... back home they would have problems ...
Client rights in Germany. Two rights: right to NOTHING, and the right of not abusing the rights you have ...
Paper friday!
Friday was basically a "paper day". Gotta check it during the weekend and it will be ready and just in time to go to the next one!
Paper day
Today the day was used with the paper mainly, preparing the results of the analysis of the simulated images to the OV_WAV paper.
What's that all about.
I had this section writen an year ago. But since this paper is taking to long to finish, I had to transfer this section to another paper, the one of the pilot sample or the IGL (Intragroup Light), to show that the method works well.
Doing that, I lost my section on this paper. I still think (and the other authors too) that this low surface brightness simulations should be on this paper too. So I expanded the simulation in a range of brightnesses and using exponential and de Vaucouleurs profiles. This new range of signal and the two profiles really made a nice result :-)
Now, writing it again. Tomorrow it will be ready anyway. At least my part. Now poking the other authors ... YOWWWWWWWWW :-) (I know my part is already finished a while ago and that the other parts are quite complicated ...).
Also German class! We had to research some stuff about Moechten being the Past Subjunctive (Konjuntive II) of Moegen. It was a nice discussion, is a nice group!
Last thing for today! The winter has arrived. Tonight we had the first snow. Not enough to stay on the floor, but ... already scary :-) Counting the days to SPRING!!!
Another calm day!
More on the OV_WAV paper, my part will be ready tomorrow, as predicted. More on galfit studying. At the end of the day climbing at the new climbing hall :-))

Today I re-started writing the simulations performed to characterize the OV_WAV. Probably will finish tomorrow or Thursday. Also studying the GALFIT to do my ACS photometry.
Day was short because I attended to a new German course, which was not what I wanted to, I need a conversation course and this was more a phonetic course. So I'll keep searching. Than I went to my normal gramatic course, which is nice :-)
