Pre-processing of images (still)

Half good humor forcast for the day! I.e., if the weather is good and I can take 30 minuts of bike riding is a good forecast, if it's bad and I have to cycle indoors, is a "half good" forecast, and none of them, is a bad forecast! Today it was indoor cycling.

An interesting talk in the morning, meeting in the beginning of the afternoon ... OK

Image pre-processing most of the day. It's over, now I can treat the data!

Good news is that the Intra-Group Light paper "converged" from the colaborators. Just a feel things and submit it, until friday, tops!

Just a small restaurant not so good espresso today!!

Second day ... mails and image processing ...

So! Second day of the daily report blog. I won't be counting the days, just the that's the second one, so it's ok! :-)

Today a nice "lunch chat report" of the Marseille conference to Bodo (Ziegler), my colaborator here in Goettingen, lots of mail reading (there are still some ... I read mails in german very slowly) and data reduction.

Finally managed to start reducing in a feasible and correct way a Laica (Calar Alto wide field camera) run. It's kind of complicated because the images are taken in 4 CCDs with 4-port readout. So the BIAS and OVERSCAN is complicated. I tried several ways (I'm trying it since end of march) and finally got to XCCDRED, which seems to be the best way of doing it. If anyone knows a better way ... please let me know.

Tomorrow I should finish pre-processing the flatfields to work with it ... then the real images!

The institute decided to buy (on a internal money sharing basis) a SAECO Incanto Coffee Machine. Seems a nice option, coffee available all the time on a semi-automatic machine of high quality! Unfortunately we don't have budget to buy one like the one at ESO-Garching cafeteria!! This would be great!

"And So It Begins"

I got this idea from David Hogg last week in Marseille during a conference. A daily report on the working days about the produced science.

So, the idea is a small summary of the day, with comments to and from colaborators, also opened to comments from who wants to. It may also appear something about life, family, Brazil (my home country), Germany (where I'm living), cycling (my favorite sport), music ... I don't think I can handle more than one blog (one for science and one for non-science topics).

The coffee part is because I like it and (as the description of the blog says) it's part of science, at least in astrophysics!

I still have to learn how it goes (my wife is an expert in the subject and will help me out). Let's see if the idea works with me!

Welcome all ... "And So It Begins"

- Today:

After two weeks out of town in conferences I came back. Rest in the morning of the 11 hours in plane and train to get home and tried to put my computer back on work (after some server changes due to the new building) and started to put my e-mail up to date ... this will take a bit more of my day and few days more.

Not science related, but life related, my wife got a pretty nice tattoo today! :-)) I loved it!
