Sunny day!

Today was a sunny day! :-)

I finished the remodelling of the last group of the LAICA sample. We also discussed a little about a proposal.

I has to read a chapter about Wavelets, sort of my expertize, of the thesis of a diploma student. Since it was a sunny day, took it and a couple of papers for a reading afternoon at the sun :-) It was good and productive! Good chapter, by the way!

Lost day ...

Some paperwork, some archive digging, some personal stuff solved downtown.

Most of my day was dedicated to the guy that would fix my bell ring (sent by the owner of the flat). I set an appointment for today at 4pm. Came back earlier, just in case ... waited until 5pm when I got fed up and decided to call him. "Hey we have an appointment for today at 4 and it's already 5" and I had to hear "yes, I know, but I won't make it because I'm in Hamburg, you'll have to call me in the next days to set a new one ..."

I like living here, there's lots of good things here, but service is NOT ONE OF THEM!! Here there's no "the client is always right", the service here is more like "I'm doing a favor solving your problem".

Tomorrow "Dr. Da Rocha" will be very upset when "he" calls the owner (at least the title DOKTOR here have some importance). Now he'll set the day the guy can, but it will be at 8am, so that I can go to work or to the gym afterwards. Otherwise I'll call someone that shows up and send him the bill!

I know the topic has nothing to do with science, even though it has to do with my day, but I have problems to accept people that don't do what they tell they'll do (in any field of life).

GALFIT day!

Today the day was partially spent on a group meeting, since the boss came back from a congress and had news for us!

Also spent most of the day with Elif, one of our Ph.D. student learning about GALFIT, which I'll have to use in the new project. I'll check how good I can use it and how good are the results. Then I have to learn BUDDA, writen by my good friend Dimitri Gadotti and compare them both!! :-) A lot of work ahead!

Also some more archive digging!

Basically that hehehehe tomorrow there's more GALFIT!

So I decided that instead of staying the whole day indoor behind the computer screen, I went outside to read! It was very good! A whole day out side, and a whole day reading! :-)

Also some time indoor digging archives ... the "archive digger" is back! :-)

Now today's

OK, now today's post!

Good day. Modelling and modelling! The B band modelling was a good result but the R still need some working on that. It is happening now ... over night.

Also re-writing a proposal. One of the things that I don't understand very well.

I've got a proposal aprooved. But the referee questioned the distribution of my targets and suggested it to be splitted in two semesters. It was a good way of seeing it, also because the weather for the two "subsamples" observation time was much better.

They gave me half the nights, but at the same dates I asked for the whole sample ... so ... in the end it didn't matter because there was the huge tropical storm and 4 nights there, for nights sleeping :-)

The second part of the nights was given without any question or comment ... GREAT! And observed (not all the targets because of the weather, but ...).

Sent the project again to get the "stormy nights" ... no nights for it and hard critics on that. Agreeing or not with it, a different referee changes the whole way to see the thing. Just don't understand how a good project changes to a bad project because of the referee ... it's too subjective to my understanding ...

More mess in the house, received my bed and shelves ... gotta mount it all now! :-)

Yesterday was a simple day. Checking the modelling of some data. It seems to be going in the right direction ... great!

Remodeling + moving (yet)

Thursday, Friday and today was taken with keep on reading what has to be read.

Also remodeling one of the groups to get some possible contamination out. Still working on that.

About the moving, now is time to put some furniture on the house hehehehehe Today I got a bed and chairs and glasses! :-)

Phone instalation day!

Yesterday I forgot to mention. Most of the afternoon was spent on our group meeting, that was longer because one of our students came back after some months in the Netherlands, so we had to "update her".

Today, most of the day waiting for the phone to be installed at home. They said "between 8 and 16" and if you're not there, than it's 60 euros for the new date with the company ... mean while arranging the house and reading a bit more. Now, buy some stuff for the house and get a table with a friend!!!

Moving

OK! The moving to the new flat is completed, the old flat keys were already handed back. The cleaning of the old and the moving took me most of the week. Now I'm arranging things "somehow" at the new one, so that I can live there heheheh that takes time also.

Today also helping Miguel moving offices, now our group is in the same area of the institute ... :-)
