Talk ready? Almost!
Talk is almost ready! I put everything there, lots of figures, as I think there should be in a talk ... the nice stuff ... I prepared a script to make the analysis of a small section of one image on-the-fly!!
Caveats of this:
1- At home I gotta make it work on windows ...
2- Fancy things like movies or this analysis NEVER work during a talk! Murphy is always there to mess up with your life and make you feel ridiculous heheuheuehueheu (I'm an optimist, as can be seen).
Now at home I'll finish this and check tomorrow morning if everything is OK!
Late post ... again!
Just a late post about friday (and the weekend) ... basically preparing the talk the whole time. I wanted to make new figures, more detailed explanation about the method. I'll be happy if I can give the audience a clear idea on how this method works.
Also on friday we tried to do the second meeting of the Journal Club, but basically no one showed up, only the 3 other that wanted to do it from the beginning.
I'll try to schedule the meetings to tuesday lunch time, let's see if it works.
One more talk!
Most of the day was spent preparing the talk for next tuesday. The talk about the OV_WAV (the wavelet software).
Since there was lots of technical questions in the last talk, about the paper, I want to try to reply as many as possible during the talk and I'm sure the ones I don't will be asked at the end :-)) So, good preparation is needed.
Finding a new time for the Journal Club is getting difficult. We are now trying to arrange a "lunch time" to make a Pizza-Journal Club ... let's see. At least is getting difficult because there was an increase in the number of interested people.
About the concert yesterday ... THERE WAS NO CONCERT!! :-( The singer of the band got sick :-( Bad, very bad!! At least I got an Irish beer with my friends in Hannover :-))
Light day
Light and short day!
Image reduction (yes! it is a 7 days run, 4 ccds per frame, very complicated weather ...).
Free afternoon! I'm going to Hannover to see a concert! Die Happy is playing there! Think I deserve :-))

Good thing of the day, proof done and sent! I just hope they understand the modifications I had to do because of the "in preparation" excluded reference ...
Besides that, a student gave a talk in the "students seminar" (between quotation marks 'cos not only students give talks there, I'll talk about the OV_WAV next tuesday there!).
Still helping our students on image reduction and SExtractor usage ...
Than I got stuck in the institute because of the rain and kept with the data reduction, what was good (I was hungry, but it's OK).
Now I'm trying to study a bit of German!! Let's see if I make it hueheuehe
Proof
I spent most of the weekend working on the proof of the paper. Since the journal changes things that are not indicated, I went through the whole paper, comparing line by line, to be sure there was no change of meaning.
Besides the marked modifications.
After that, sent to the co-author, who made comments. Part of the day was spent on arranging this on a message to the editor. Tomorrow it will continue, since I cannot refer to a paper "in preparation", so some sentences will have to be changed.
Besides that, Monday is a day with group meeting, than help the new student, than discuss some projects with Bodo and the final arrangements for the observing trip to Canary Islands ... and the day was over and things were not ready!!
I also have to try to organize a new time to the Journal Club, since there's another meeting scheduled to the same time on Friday and I didn't know about it before ... I'm trying!!
Journal Club starts
Today we finally something that I was missing here and that I've been trying to do for a while. A Journal Club. Basically a informal discussion of what was new and interesting to each one in the week! No presentations allowed, only, spoken highlights!
I've talked to other people that had the same feeling, they agreed, the day and time is never good for all the people, but.
Sent a message to all the institute and besides the people I've talked before there were more people interest, what was great!! No one took anything because for most of them was "short notice", so I spoke a bit about two papers I've read.
FRIDAY at 11:00!! :-))
Besides that helping the new students with photometry and reducing my own photometry.
Also got the proof of the paper and already disagree with a couple of things!! GRRRRR I wanna get this ready for monday!!
Now gotta prepare the new talk about the wavelet method for Nov. 1st ...
Talk given!
OK, the Colloquium is gone! :-) It was good! Several questions, and some very good questions and comments! It will improve the things, so it was worth giving it. Also giving a talk "at home" always put some pressure on it, for me at least.
Also some data reduction, help the new student and finally Lufthansa is giving my money back!
Besides that ... good dinner with friends after the talk, as it should be!
Talk is ready
The main activity of the day was finish the talk I'm giving tomorrow here at the institute. It's ready! Good!!
Still arranging the flight to La Palma, no flights available when we need, and trying to get my money back from Lufthansa.
Long meeting with the new student, which wants to migrate from MIDAS to IRAF :-)) Let's see how fast he can do.
Also some data reduction of the Calar Alto run!
Day that "goes"!
Today was a day that "went" :-)
Like, some problems solving. Called Lufthansa about the money the have to refund me, fortunately, they wanted to give me 50% of the money HE HE HE sooooooooo funny!
Arranging the trip to La Palma to observe on INT at the end of november.
Meeting about the seminars, already scheduled another one about the OV_WAV, the wavelet method we use and help developing.
Data reduction, finally something nice (not so nice, the data do not look as "easy" as it would be desireble!!!
No news from the OV_WAV paper and from the CMB paper (ignored hehehehe I can really be a pain)
Tomorrow morning finish preparing my Astrophysikalisches Kolloquium of thursday! Then, back to those images.

Today we had a group meeting where we started the policy that every monday we meet and, specially the students, say what they have done last week and what they are preparing for this week. It was already good enough today, we got to see what one of the new students is doing, and it sounded good for me!
I'm giving a coloquium at the institute this thursday, so a bit of preparing it (a bit more tomorrow).
Finally got to review some MC simulations we did for the CMB point sources detection during Marcia's M.Sc. thesis. Now I have to figure out what to use from that in the paper (gotta do it fast!).
Restarted the Laica data reduction ... already seeing that I should have taken notes of a couple of things and I didn't ... GRRRR
Not too busy, but productive monday!!!
During the weekend I managed to finish the web page with the pictures of my little bike expedition!!

Broken things ...
Today technical problems took 70% of my day away!! Problems with my transport system, i.e. my bike. Another broken spoke on the back wheel, where I can't fix ...
The project needs precise estimates of costs for all the time ... so, let's plan what is still to be announced!!
Lousy coffee at Thanners, there only for beer, gotta learn that once and for all!!
After the weekend
This weekend (starting on friday) I managed to do something I wanted for a while! A bike trip! Got the bike and a map and said "wanna go there" ... than "wanna go there" ... no specific route!! Just cycling!!!
It was a 3 days trip. First day 78 km, second day 103 km and third day 93 km until Verden (close to Bremen) when I was tired and there was still some way until Bremen, so I decided to get a train back home!!

Today was a slow day (I'm still tired hehehehehe).
The text reached the point, just small corrections. Some meetings because of the beginning of the winter semester.
Tomorrow finish the bureaucratic part of the project and submit it!! Let's see!!
Is it ready??
Today the day was suppose to be to finish the text I'm preparing! I had it restructured and had to finish some sections yet.
The morning was spent with paper work. "I want my money back day!" Paper work to the university and to Lufthansa.
Most of my afternoon I spent in a discussion about photometry, my speciality! What was great!! It's like doing science, not only paper work!! We had to discuss how to apply different flatfields to the images to have some field distortions corrected! GREAT! :-)))
After that, back to text! Just finished!! I hope now it is ready!! (this will be a 11:59 pm kind of post because of a pair of minutes, but it's ok).
That's it! Tomorrow I'll probably go on a small expedition ... let's see if it happens, if it does, I'll talk a bit more when I'm back, if not ... I'll talk about science tomorrow! hehehehehe
It keeps going
Yesterday I received comments to the paper, with some suggestions of missing references. Had to read the papers and tried a small modification on the text. Let's see if the editors will accept it.
Now I'm into restructuring the end of my text, to be crearer and more interesting. Have to finish it tomorrow under any circumstances!
Update day!
Today the day was full of paper and empty of new science.
Corrections to the text I'm writing, trying to get a electronic form to get my travel money back and cv updates (not done yet, but I am ... too late to keep with it). In Brazil we have a standard national CV bank. Is there any "international standard CV"???
Tomorrow I'll finish this and the text ... then I'll be able to do new science!!
Re-unification day in Germany
Today is a "non-working day" in Germany. Official date of the german re-unification ... this doesn't mean I didn't have to work! :-)
The weekend was kind of busy. Read a very interesting paper about numerical simulations of groups, which brough me thousands of questions that I had to put to the author.
Today I got to an end to one project I was writing. Let's see if tomorrow it still looks like it's finished :-)
